WHY, WHY, WHY?

WHY, WHY, WHY?

How many times have we been frustrated and cannot seem to stop flying balls well long or beating balls in to the bottom of the net?

I would like to offer some observations that might assist  with feedback as to “Why” we are missing shots at times.

We talked about Extension in the previous comments so that still is a reference point.  The idea is to be educated to the point of being able to assess our poor play at times and not simply be frustrated and say “Why can I not stop these errors?”

Beating balls consistently halfway down or into the bottom of the net - in general we are likely getting anxious and stopping a bit short with the arm and “flicking” the wrist over to simulate or force extension.  When we do that we have the tendency to be very quick and snap the shot into the net.

Flying balls consistently long - in general we are likely “holding on” to the shot - not allowing the arm to extend and stopping the arm short which tends to keep the racquet face open and the ball “flies” on the shot.

Smooth even tempo with good extension can (in general) be a good remedy to these issues.  Again there can always be other factors in play but this is sort of a quick guide so to speak in assisting us during live play.
